Recorded before I had the good sense to make it pretty.
The first take had the breath in it. The chair moved. A car passed outside. I almost deleted it because I could hear myself thinking.
“Sometimes the artifact is not the song. Sometimes it is the moment before the song learns how to behave.”
So I kept it. Not as a demo. As evidence.
